Kota Kinabalu: Five individuals were each sentenced to a day’s jail and fined RM10,000 by the Traffic Court here Wednesday for drink driving.
Arwinah Makrun, 29, Ezequel Irwin, 33, Olfen Ng, 29, Cylister Michael, 35, and Audreco Voo, 22, pleaded guilty separately before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to the charges against them.

If they fail to pay the fine, Ng and Ezequel will serve six months in jail, while Arwinah, Cylister and Audreco will serve five months.
The court also disqualified all five from holding or obtaining a driving licence for two years from the date of conviction.
Arwinah admitted to driving a Perodua Kenari along the Penampang–Kota Kinabalu road in Penampang at about 2am on May 2 this year with a blood alcohol level of 198mg per 100ml, exceeding the legal limit.
Ezequel admitted to driving a Mitsubishi Triton on Jalan Pintas, Penampang, at about 12.20am on May 2 this year with 202mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood.
Ng admitted to driving a Ford Ranger on Jalan Pintas, Penampang, at about 1am on the same day with 91mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood.
Cylister admitted to driving an Isuzu D-Max near SMK Bahang, Penampang, at about 1am on the same day with 100mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood.
Audreco admitted to driving a Hyundai i40 near a Petron station in Bundusan at about 2.40am on May 17 this year with 164mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood.
All were charged under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which provides for a jail term of up to two years and a fine of between RM10,000 and RM30,000 on conviction.
Traffic Prosecuting Officers Inspectors Amrin Mohamad Arif and Irian Shah appeared for the prosecution.
In another case, two people were fined RM100 each or three days’ jail for failing to explain cash deposits into their bank accounts.
Wong Jim Loong, 27, and Md Safwan Zairul, 19, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn.
Wong admitted having RM13,000 in her GXBank account at a house in Taman Foo Loong, here, on Oct 21, 2024, and failed to give a satisfactory explanation as to how the money was obtained.
Md Safwan admitted having RM600 in his Bank Simpanan Nasional account at Kg Putaton, Penampang, on July 23, 2025, and failed to give a satisfactory explanation on how he obtained it.
Both were charged under Section 22A(1) of the Minor Offences Ordinance (Sabah), which provides for a fine of up to RM100 or imprisonment of up to three months, or both, on conviction.
