TAWAU: A former plantation supervisor was fined RM10,000 or jailed two years after insulting a 23-year-old intern’s modesty by asking inappropriate sexual questions during a work-related trip.
Mohd Yusran Yusuf, 36, was sentenced by Magistrate Dayang Aidaku Amira Aminuddin after the court found the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt.
He was convicted of insulting the victim’s modesty by making sexual remarks while both were travelling back to the office after completing work matters at an estate.
The incident occurred near Merotai Besar Estate between 3pm and 4pm on Sept 4, 2024, while they were inside an Isuzu D-Max vehicle.
The offence falls under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to five years, or a fine, or both upon conviction.
The trial began on June 19, 2025, and the prosecution closed its case on Dec 1, 2025, after calling seven witnesses.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Wildan Firdaus Ahmad Fazly prosecuted the case, while the accused was represented by counsel Noorhaidah @ Nasra Abd Raup.
