Kota Kinabalu: Seven men were each sentenced to one day’s jail and fined RM10,000 or seven months jail by the Traffic Court here Monday for drink driving.
Nicholas Noel, 22, Kamarul Hisyam, 30, Terence L., 43, Faiz Cheng, 41, Khairul Hakimin, 38, Ian Jeremy, 31, and Md Daniel, 22, pleaded guilty separately before Magistrates Marilyn Kelvin and Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali to the charges against them.
The court also disqualified all five from holding or obtaining a driving licence for two years from the date of conviction.
Nicholas was found driving a Perodua Axia along Jalan Bundusan, Penampang, at about 1.20am on May 9, this year with 97mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood, exceeding the permitted limit.
Kamarul drove a Perodua Bezza along Jalan Pintas, Penampang, at about 1.45am on April 25, this year with 100mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood.
Terence was found driving a Perodua Kelisa along Jalan Tuaran Lama, here, at about 2.18am on May 9, this year with 93mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood.
Cheng drove a Toyota Innova along Jalan Pintas, Kopungit, here at about 2.30am on April 19, this year with 64mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood.
Khairul was found riding a Kawasaki Versys 650 motorcycle along Jalan Kepayan (Aeropod) at about 2am on April 12, also this year, with 61mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood.
Ian was stopped at a roadblock along Jalan Pintas-Penampang in front of My Flooring at about 1.44am on April 25 while driving a Perodua Viva.
A breathalyser test later showed he had 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood.
Md Daniel was stopped at a roadblock along Jalan Kota Kinabalu-Penampang in front of SMK Bahang at about 1am on Feb 24 while driving a Perodua Viva.
A breath test found he had 152mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood.
All were charged under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which provides for a jail term of up to two years and a fine of between RM10,000 and RM30,000, upon conviction.
Traffic prosecuting officers Inspectors Amrin Mohamad Arif and Irian Shah appeared for the prosecution.
