Kota Kinabalu: A 41-year-old self-employed who sodomised an eight-year-old boy was jailed eight years and ordered to be given a stroke of the cane.
Sessions Court Judge Hurman Hussain meted out the sentence on Willie Andrew Wong after he pleaded guilty to the charge against him on Thursday.
Wong had committed the carnal intercourse against the order of nature against the boy between January and July 2025 at a house, here.
The offence under Section 377B of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping, on conviction.
Wong was ordered to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest.
During mitigation, Wong who was not represented, asked for leniency saying that he is still single and that he was unemployed.
However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Akaash Singh urged the court to impose a heavy custodial sentence considering the seriousness of the offence which demands more than a lenient disposition.
Akaash also submitted that the court should also considered the extreme youth and vulnerability of the victim.
He also said the fact that the offence occurred within the safety of the family home, which was the home of the victim’s grandmother, adding that the calculated decision to prioritise his own sexual gratification over the wellbeing of a defenceless child.
The court heard that the incident came to light when the victim told her mother that an ‘uncle Willie’ had sodomised her since January to July 2025.
Investigation revealed that the incident had happened at the house of the victim’s grandmother and following a police report, Wong was arrested.
