SEREMBAN: An e-hailing driver shared a distressing experience after allegedly dealing with an aggressive passenger following a dispute over a RM7 fare, with the incident and a video recording going viral on social media.

According to the driver, the incident occurred in the Seremban Delima area after the passenger handed him RM50 to pay for the fare, but he did not have sufficient small change to return the balance.

The driver claimed he tried to resolve the matter calmly and suggested that the passenger prepare smaller notes, such as RM10 or RM20, for low-fare rides in future.

However, the situation allegedly became tense when the passenger became dissatisfied and insisted it was the driver’s responsibility to provide sufficient change, leading to a verbal altercation inside the vehicle.

The driver further alleged that the male passenger slapped his own wife while she was attempting to calm the situation, prompting him to ask the couple to leave the vehicle as he felt uncomfortable with the incident.

He said he initially intended to allow the ride to go unpaid if the issue could not be resolved, but later lodged a report with Grab following the incident, adding that the passenger allegedly continued sending messages through the application and threatened to make a counter-report.

“More than three years of driving, this is the first time I’ve encountered a passenger like this,” he wrote in the post, which has since attracted various reactions online.

Many social media users also expressed sympathy for the driver and hoped safety and protection issues involving e-hailing drivers would continue receiving attention, especially when dealing with allegedly aggressive or difficult passengers.
