Port crisis: Chin urges transparency, immediate measures
Chin said serious consideration should also be given to cost-sharing or mitigation mechanisms to reduce the financial burden imposed on businesses and consumers due to operational failures beyond their control.
KOTA KINABALU: Kapayan Assemblyman Chin Tek Ming called for urgent transparency, accountability and immediate corrective measures over the worsening congestion crisis at Sabah’s ports, warning that the issue is escalating into an economic emergency affecting businesses and the rakyat.

He urged the relevant authorities and stakeholders to publicly disclose the actual causes and contributing factors behind the port congestion, which has disrupted logistics operations and raised concerns among businesses across Sabah.

In a statement, Chin said the shocking 4km queue meant they are no longer operational issues that can be casually dismissed as temporary inefficiencies or isolated disruptions.

Chin suggested a clear and measurable decongestion and recovery timeline, as well as an independent technical and operational review of Sabah’s port infrastructure capacity, management systems and future expansion requirements.
