Transparency lacking in plumbing industry
Perak Plumber Association President Leong Chee Wah
Kota Kinabalu: Perak Plumber Association President Leong Chee Wah said the plumbing industry in Malaysia will not gain public confidence without stronger enforcement and greater transparency across the supply chain.

“Let’s be honest, it is frustrating when unlicensed individuals come in, do a messy job for cheap and give the rest of us a bad name,” Leong said at the Plumbing Asia 2026 Conference and Expo held at the Sabah International Convention Centre, here, Sunday.

He said when rules are enforced, it levels the playing field and it builds trust with the public because they will know that calling a professional means they are getting someone who knows their stuff, not just someone with a wrench and a guess.

“The most important thing is to have increased transparency. Who is doing the enforcement? Is there an independent body?” he said.
