TELUPID: The district will soon have its first State Religious School (SAN) and kindergarten under the Sabah Islamic Religious Affairs Department (Jheains).
State Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif said the project, which is currently under construction, is expected to be completed by end of this year.
“We expect the school to receive its first intake next year.
It is understood that PAS is also aggressively setting up its own kindergartens, Pasti, nationwide with 40 identified for Sabah and 20 in Sarawak.
Dr Mohd Arifin, who is also the State Religious Affairs Exco, said this after visiting the construction site and Masjid Jamek Yusuf Al-Qardhawi, here.
He also presented special contributions for Masjid and surau activities as well as utility bill assistance to 11 Masjid and surau in Telupid and Tongod districts on behalf of the Sabah Islamic Religious Council (MUIS) and the Sabah State Baitulmal Corporation.

Also present were Assistant Minister of Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport who is also Telupid Assemblyman Datuk Jonnybone J Kurum, Jheains Director Datuk Awang Juri Awang Tahir and others.
The project scope includes two blocks with three classrooms each, an administration block, teachers’ room, surau, canteen and toilets, as well as external infrastructure, mechanical and electrical works.
Meanwhile, Dr Mohd Arifin said the selection of Masjid Jamek Yusuf Al-Qardhawi as the State’s best stopover Masjid for travellers was fitting given Telupid’s route to nearby districts.
On the need for a larger parking area around the Masjid to accommodate worshippers, travellers and the future school, he said the matter would be further reviewed.
Issues concerning the cemetery land and access road to the district cemetery would also be among the needs taken into consideration. He added.
Dr Mohd Arifin expressed appreciation for Jonnybone’s concern and efforts in assisting the initiative and voicing issues faced by the people in his constituency for the appropriate action and attention.
Earlier, Dr Mohd Arifin, who also led the ministry’s outreach series, attended a briefing session at the Telupid District Council.
He said the district administration was progressing well.
Among the issues raised were staffing requirements at the council and the need for public facilities, which would also be further examined by his Ministry.
The efforts are part of plans to develop the district in line with the aspirations of the people and local leaders, including Jonnybone, who has also voiced concerns affecting local residents.
