THE Madani government is considering a RM5 million matching grant in the 2027 National Budget to revive some statesmen memorials nationwide, as part of efforts to strengthen national identity, patriotism and unity among Malaysians.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the proposed allocation would be used to revitalise 10 memorials dedicated to national figures, while strengthening efforts to preserve and promote Malaysia's historical legacy.

“We will provide a matching grant of RM5 million to revive 10 statesmen memorials in Kuala Lumpur, including those dedicated to Tunku Abdul Rahman and Tun Razak.
I have also proposed that memorials for Tun Dr Ismail, as well as leaders from Sabah and Sarawak, be given similar attention.
“In the same spirit, we hope to see and support the development of a Sabah Statesmen Memorial to appreciate the contributions and sacrifices of leaders who have shaped the history of the state and the country,” he said, when launching the 2026 National Unity Week Celebration at the Likas Sports Complex, Saturday.
Also present were Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor, and National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Aga Dagang and senior officials.
He said the proposed allocation would also support the accelerated digitisation of the nation's historical archives and the organisation of interactive exhibitions in public spaces, including educational institutions, shopping malls and public transportation hubs.
He said the initiative, to be spearheaded through the National Archives of Malaysia, aims to bring the country's history closer to the people while fostering a deeper appreciation of Malaysia's heritage and nation-building journey.
Furthermore, Anwar said the Federal government will provide grants to thousands of Rukun Negara clubs and secretariats nationwide as part of a renewed push to strengthen the understanding and internalisation of the Rukun Negara among the younger generation.
“Activity grants of RM10,000 each would be allocated to 189 Rukun Negara Secretariats (SRN) at institutions of higher learning across the country to organise programmes focusing on nation-building, patriotism and unity among university students.
“In addition, the government will also provide grants of RM5,000 each to 6,849 Rukun Negara Clubs (KRN) in schools nationwide to encourage the practice and appreciation of the Rukun Negara principles from an early age.
“These activity grants to be given to both SRN and KRN are to ensure that the values and principles of the Rukun Negara continue to be embraced and practised by the younger generation,” he said.
Anwar added the initiative also aimed at nurturing a stronger sense of national identity and unity among young Malaysians while fostering greater interaction among students from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
“Such programme would also help produce more Young Rukun Negara Ambassadors who could serve as role models in promoting unity and patriotism within their communities and educational institutions. In light of this, the government would reactivate the Student Integration Plan for Unity (RIMUP) to provide a more effective platform for interaction, understanding and national integration among students,” he said.
