Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has advised residents in Tawau, Kunak, Semporna and Lahad Datu to remain calm and follow instructions from the authorities following a tsunami warning triggered by a magnitude 7.9 earthquake in Mindanao, southern Philippines, on Monday morning.
He said the District Disaster Management Committees (JPBD) in the affected districts had been activated to manage the situation.
The Malaysia Meteorological Department has forecast a 0.4-metre tsunami to affect the districts between 10.30am and noon today.
Hajiji urged the public to remain calm and comply with all instructions issued by the authorities.
He said the State Government, through the Disaster Command Centre, is closely monitoring developments.
