Kota Kinabalu: The State government has reaffirmed its commitment to closely monitor the welfare and development of State athletes based in the Peninsula.
This assurance was made by the Youth Development, Sports Advancement and Creative Economy Minister Datuk Nizam Titingan during a recent working visit to the Malaysia Sports School in Kuala Lumpur.
A total of 57 athletes from the Bukit Jalil Sports School, Pahang Malaysia Sports School, the National Podium and Back-up Programme, the National Para Programme and the Mokhtar Dahari Academy attended the session.
“The State government is always concerned about the development, welfare and needs of Sabah athletes wherever they are.
“I would also like to express my appreciation for the sacrifices made by those willing to leave their families in pursuit of excellence, bringing glory to both state and country,” he said.
He also called on athletes taking advantage of the opportunities provided to maintain discipline in their training and academic pursuits.
“The success of an athlete is not only determined by talent, but also by commitment, perseverance and the spirit to continue striving to achieve the best,” he added.
Meanwhile, the athletes attended the session received some financial assistance from the Ministry presented by Nizam.
He said the initiative reflected the State government’s appreciation of the athletes’ dedication and they will continue to support the athletes throughout their time in the programme.
Among those who accompanied the Minister during the visit were Assistant Minister Dato’ Sri Anil Sandhu, permanent secretary Datuk Mansur Asun, deputy permanent secretary Adanan @ Adnan Atin and Sabah Sports Council director Asneh Mohd Noor.
