15 compounds issued to Semporna resorts

SEMPORNA: A total of 15 compounds worth RM10,000 were issued to resort owners here during a joint enforcement operation on Thursday.

The integrated operation, conducted by the Semporna District Police Headquarters together with the Semporna District Council, involved inspections on six land-based resorts to ensure compliance with licensing and operational regulations.

A total of 29 officers and enforcement personnel from both agencies were involved in the operation.

District Police Chief Supt Tan Hiap Wah said several offences linked to licensing and business operations were detected during the inspections.

“The Semporna District Council issued 15 compounds amounting to RM10,000 against premises found to have breached regulations.

“During the operation, police also detained a 23-year-old local man suspected of possessing several exotic animals and wildlife meat without a permit,” he said.

According to Tan, the suspect and seized items were handed over to the Wildlife Department for further investigation and action.
