TAWAU: As education rapidly embraces digital transformation, adaptability is no longer optional—it must be realized through empowering teachers and students with technology and artificial intelligence (AI).
The Tawau District Education Office (PPD), in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), recently held the Academic Improvement Program for Form Six Sports Science teachers and students at SMK Tawau.
The one-day program, from 8.00 am to 12.00 noon, aimed to enhance knowledge, learning skills, and academic motivation.
Senior Lecturer Frederick Josue @ Mohd Fadhil Abdullah of UMS led a session on using technology and AI to empower teaching, learning, and student performance.
Participants explored digital and AI tools such as ChatGPT, Canva, Kahoot and Google Classroom, along with gamification, data-driven learning, VR/AR simulations and the Internet of Things, all within the Sports Science context.
The partnership emphasized that technology strengthens teachers’ roles as facilitators rather than replacing them.
Students were also introduced to further study opportunities in Sports Science at UMS, focusing on academic growth, co-curricular activities, and career pathways.
Tawau District Education Officer Matnoor bin Sima said the program strategically enhances student achievement and motivation, while collaboration with UMS adds value for teachers implementing effective instruction.
Dr. Frederick stressed ethical and responsible AI use, highlighting that data, performance analysis, and immediate feedback make learning more concrete and meaningful.
The initiative also demonstrated practical applications of technology in movement analysis, smart assessments, and personalized learning.
Overall, it reflects PPD Tawau and UMS’s commitment to modernizing Sports Science education to meet 21st-century needs.
