NABAWAN: The Kaamatan Festival celebration is not merely an annual event, but a symbol of unity, harmony and the strength of cultural identity among the various communities in the State.

Nabawan assemblyman Datuk Abd Ghani Mohd Yassin said this year’s theme, “Kaamatan: Harvesting Unity, Celebrating Harmony”, carries significant meaning in uniting the people and preserving the spirit of mutual cooperation that forms the foundation of life in the area.

He said this when officiating the 2026 Nabawan district and Pagalungan sub-district Kaamatan Festival celebration on Saturday.

According to him, appreciation for the Kaamatan celebration must continue to be nurtured as it is not only a sign of gratitude for the harvest and blessings received, but also serves as a platform to strengthen ties and preserve the unity long enjoyed by the community.

At the same time, Ghani reaffirmed his continued commitment together with the State leadership in addressing several important issues frequently raised by the people in the area.

Among the issues highlighted, he said are land ownership, particularly for villagers who have long cultivated the land, the need for basic infrastructure in Nabawan and Pagalungan, as well as the welfare and wellbeing of the people, including government assistance and subsidies.

In this regard, he urged the community to continue working together to preserve unity and harmony for the benefit of present and future generations.

Earlier, in his speech, Ghani hoped that this year’s Kaamatan celebration would serve as a platform for youths to become closer to their culture and identity, while also creating opportunities for small entrepreneurs to continue growing.

According to him, development that progresses hand in hand with cultural preservation is the true strength of the community in the district.

He also recorded his appreciation and congratulations to the organising committee and all parties involved in making the 2026 Nabawan district and Pagalungan sub-district Kaamatan Festival celebration a success.
