KOTA KINABALU: The Kota Kinabalu Hakka Association’s Recreation Division will hold its “Hakka Roots” Family Day 2026 on July 12 from 8am to 11.30am at Taman Teluk Likas (First Bay Park).
The event aims to strengthen family bonds among members and promote understanding of Hakka culture among the younger generation.

Association President Datuk Jimmy Yong said family plays a vital role in preserving cultural traditions, and the Hakka spirit is rooted in unity, diligence, and resilience.
“This Family Day is a chance for members and their families to connect in a joyful atmosphere while giving the younger generation a hands-on experience of Hakka culture,” he said.
He also encouraged the public interested in Hakka culture to join the Association and take part in future cultural and youth-focused activities.
Recreation Division Director Datuk Sucie Chong said this year’s theme, “Hakka Roots”, reflects the Association’s goal of fostering stronger family bonds and encouraging cultural learning among children and youths.
The event will include parent-child activities, cultural games, family bonding exercises, cultural showcases, and friendly competitions. Educational games will introduce children to Hakka language, cuisine, and customs in a fun and engaging way.
The Association hopes the Family Day will inspire participants to appreciate their roots, strengthen family ties, and help preserve Hakka traditions for future generations.
The event is open to Association members and their families only, with each member allowed to register up to three family members.
Registration closes on June 15 via the Association office at 088-262448 or 012-8856833. Confirmations will be sent by SMS. Participation is limited and will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
