NABAWAN: The highlight of the 2026 Kaamatan Festival at the Nabawan District and Pagalungan Sub-District levels will be held at the Nabawan District Council Open Stage on May 9.

Nabawan District Officer, Ts Marshal Anthony, said the official opening at 8am will be officiated by Nabawan State Assemblyman Datuk Abdul Ghani Mohamed Yassin, who is also Chairman of the Sabah Land Development Board (LKTNS). He said the programme will feature various cultural performances and activities, with the Unduk Ngadau pageant as the main attraction.

Marshal added that the festival will begin earlier on May 2 with the Sugandoi Open Kaamatan and Sugandoi Dazanak competitions at 3pm at the Pagalungan Sub-District Open Hall.

The opening segment is expected to be officiated by Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup, who is also Pensiangan Member of Parliament.

He said the Sukan Rakyat programme will be held on May 8 from 7.30am at the Nabawan District Sports Complex and is expected to be officiated by Senator Bobbey A. Suan.

He expressed hope that the public will turn up in large numbers to support the programmes, strengthen unity and appreciate local culture.
