KENINGAU: A 21-year-old woman was killed and her husband left fighting for his life after a lorry rammed into their motorcycle from behind at Jalan Nabawan-Sapulut near Kampung Sarikan on Wednesday night.
Keningau District Police Chief Superintendent Yampil Anak Garai confirmed that Marlyana Baulun died at the scene from fatal head injuries, while her husband, 27-year-old Dendey Ampat, is currently receiving emergency treatment at Keningau Hospital for severe injuries.
The 7:45 PM incident occurred as the couple was traveling from Nabawan toward Sepulut.
According to preliminary investigations, the lorry driver caused the accident by driving recklessly and failing to notice the motorcycle ahead, leading to a violent rear-end collision.
Authorities are currently investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
