Kota Kinabalu: A broadly imposed work-from-home (WFH) policy could undermine Sabah’s productivity, service delivery and economic momentum, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) President Datuk Chin Su Phin (

Chin said any such policy must be grounded in Sabah’s actual conditions and not introduced prematurely.
He said experiences in major economies such as the United States and the United Kingdom showed organisations scaling back full WFH arrangements after reporting declining productivity, slower decision-making, weaker supervision and coordination challenges.
Chin said prolonged remote work in several cases also led to reduced accountability, communication gaps and operational inefficiencies, prompting both public and private sectors to recalibrate their approaches.
He said Sabah faces additional challenges, including logistical limitations, uneven digital infrastructure, and the need for physical presence in key sectors, adding that any remote working arrangement should be targeted, phased and sector-specific rather than implemented as a blanket measure.
