SANDAKAN: A 63-year-old local man was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment by the Sessions Court here after pleading guilty to committing a sexual offence against a child.
Judge Roslinda Razali ordered that the sentence on Abdul Wahid Abd Salam run from the date of his arrest.
The court heard that the offence was committed on April 18, this year, at about 10.30am in front of an unnumbered squatter house at Batu 3 here.
Abdul admitted to committing a non-physical sexual offence by exposing himself to a girl aged two years and seven months with sexual intent. Following the incident, a police report was lodged, leading to his arrest for investigation.
The offence was framed under Section 15(a)(i) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which provides for imprisonment of up to 10 years or a fine of up to RM20,000, or both, upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Yuvan Bharathan prosecuted the case, while Abdul Wahid, who is not related to the victim, was unrepresented.
