SINGAPORE: Prime ministers Anwar Ibrahim and Lawrence Wong have pledged closer coordination on supply chains and energy resilience following talks, as global tensions raise uncertainty.
Both leaders also discussed the Middle East situation, stressing the need for continued diplomacy.
A two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran, in place since April 8, is set to expire soon, while a US blockade on Iranian ports and the seizure of a cargo vessel have further escalated tensions, pushing oil prices higher.
Wong said the discussion focused on strengthening supply chain resilience, while Anwar highlighted efforts to improve grid stability and manage supply and demand, including through the Asean Power Grid.
“At a time like this, it is all the more important for close neighbours like Singapore and Malaysia to stay coordinated and support one another,” Wong said.
