BANGKOK: Joseph Pedrajas said he “almost went blind” after being struck in the eye by a high-pressure water jet during Songkran celebrations in Bangkok.
The Filipino said the impact left him temporarily unable to see for about 30 seconds, describing his vision as “pitch dark”, with blurriness persisting for minutes as friends rinsed his eye before he received first aid.
After later noticing bleeding and black spots, he sought hospital treatment and was diagnosed with a retinal haemorrhage.
A specialist confirmed no tears and no need for surgery.
Calling the experience “really traumatising”, Pedrajas urged festivalgoers to wear protective eyewear and get insurance.
