Kota Kinabalu: A 48-year-old man was sentenced to six weeks’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here for criminally threatening his wife.
Ghazali Saili pleaded guilty before Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus to making threats intended to cause fear and injury to his 44-year-old wife at a house in Kampung Tebobon, Manggatal, at noon on Feb 22, this year.
The offence under Section 506 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to seven years or a fine or both on conviction.
Inspector Alia Nuurlysa Adnan prosecuting informed the court that the complainant lodged a police report on Feb 23 stating that her husband had threatened to kill her if she left the house.
Investigations revealed that earlier on the same day, Ghazali had gone to Bongawan to return the complainant’s belongings but instead forced her into his car and took her back to his house in Kampung Tebobon.
At about noon, while they were in the bedroom, Ghazali threatened to kill her if she attempted to leave.
The court heard that Ghazali became upset over the complainant’s contact with her children in Bongawan.
The court was told that the couple had only married in September 2025 but had been living separately since Dec 26, 2025, following a prior assault incident involving Ghazali.
Police later arrested Ghazali at a house in Kg Tebobon on March 26.
In another case, a 61-year-old man was fined RM4,000 or three months’ jail for operating an unlicensed entertainment outlet.
Lay Chang Chai pleaded guilty to committing the offence as a premises manager at H.O.H Cafe, Taman Suria Shop Apartment, in Penampang at 12.20am on Jan 1.
The charge under Section 3 of the Public Entertainment Ordinance 1958 is punishable under Section 11 of the same Ordinance, which provides for a fine of up to RM50,000 or imprisonment of up to one year or both on conviction.
The court heard from the prosecution that a police team conducting an Op Noda raid found the premises still operating, with loud music playing and patrons drinking.
Lay was arrested and the equipment used for the entertainment activities was seized.
Further investigations confirmed that the premises was operating without a valid licence or permit.
