Tenom: The Federal Government has approved about RM26 million to repair a landslide at Tipoh along the Tenom–Keningau road.
Tenom MP Riduan Rubin said he personally met Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi to request the allocation, which has now been approved for immediate implementation.
“The Works Ministry has agreed to expedite our application to repair the slope at Tipoh,” he said when met at a Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house he co-hosted with Kemabong Assemblyman Datuk Rubin Balang at Datuk Seri Panglima Antanom hall on Saturday.
He said the repair works would take time due to the severity of the landslip and are expected to be fully completed by end-2027, as informed by the ministry.
Riduan, who is also Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia Chairman, urged road users to prioritise safety and remain patient as the repair works are complex given the seriousness of the slope failure.
On another matter, he said the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) had applied for a package to address riverbank erosion in villages within the Tenom parliamentary area, including Kampung Batu-Batu.
“I understand the application has been submitted since the 11th Malaysia Plan, but no action has been taken to date. I also urge the State Government to provide emergency allocation for Kampung Batu-Batu in the Melalap constituency as the erosion there is very serious,” he said.
He said that without intervention, further flooding could endanger many homes in the village, as well as public facilities such as churches.
On the Akar Hidup road in Kemabong, which was recently cut off, Riduan said temporary repairs have been carried out.
He said the concessionaire and the Public Works Department (PWD) have resolved the issue for the short term.
Among those present were Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Minister Datuk Jamawi Jaafar, who is also Melalap Assemblyman; former Tenom MP Datuk Raime Unggi; as well as department heads and community leaders.
