SEMPORNA: The government is urged to consider the needs of island communities, including those in Semporna, in the implementation of targeted fuel subsidies under the Budi95 scheme.
Semporna Fishermen’s Association Chairman Salleh Abdul Salleh said the targeted fuel subsidy is highly beneficial, helping citizens enjoy petrol prices below the market rate and easing the cost of living, especially for land vehicle users nationwide.
However, Salleh highlighted that island residents face unique challenges, relying on boats as their primary mode of transportation for daily activities.
“For island communities, boats are not just a transportation choice but a basic necessity for everyday life,” he said on Saturday.
