BEAUFORT: An accident involving a train traveling from Tenom to Beaufort and a four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle occurred at Batu 58, Jalan Loji Air Beaufort, resulting in the driver of the vehicle sustaining minor injuries.
Beaufort District Police Chief Supt Wong Leong Meng confirmed the accident happened at approximately 10.45am on Monday. Initial police investigations at the scene found that the collision involved a train and an Isuzu D-Max.

“As a result of the incident, the 4WD sustained damage to its front section, while the train suffered damage to the front left side, including damage to its fuel tank and battery,” he said.

The injured driver was taken to the hospital for further examination, while the train driver and all 11 passengers were reported safe and unharmed.
Wong added that investigations revealed the railway track at the location was unfenced and not an authorized crossing for public vehicles.
In this regard, the police advise the public to exercise caution and not to cross railway tracks at unauthorized locations.

Crossings should only be made at designated and approved points provided by the Sabah State Railway Department to prevent similar incidents from occurring.
