SANDAKAN: A total of 357 monkey malaria cases have been recorded in Sabah so far, including one death.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the highest number of cases were recorded in Tawau, Ranau and Kudat, with early detection measures implemented using available expertise.
He said sustainable management, including controlled forest clearing, as well as proper waste management, were important to prevent monkeys from being attracted to human settlements.
He said this at a press conference after launching the Wellness Hub Sandakan near Sandakan health clinic on Saturday, where he also expressed hope for more such hubs to be established, including at least one in each parliamentary constituency.
He added that initiatives such as the Sihat Xpress Health Kiosk and community programmes under Wellness Hub, supported by volunteers and health education activities, could improve access to healthcare and promote a healthier lifestyle among the public.
