TAWAU: Sabah PAS Deputy Commissioner Ahmad Dullah said the ongoing debate over diesel price differences between Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia must not overlook the stark economic realities faced by the people in Sabah and Sarawak.
He said while Peninsular Malaysians have long benefited from cheaper consumer goods, the cost of living in Sabah has remained persistently high, making the State’s lower diesel price a fundamental necessity rather than a subsidy advantage.
“People in the peninsula have always enjoyed lower prices for goods. In Sabah, we are already accustomed to paying more,” he said.
Ahmad pointed out that four-wheel-drive vehicles are not a luxury in Sabah but a basic requirement, given the State’s hilly terrain, poor road conditions in many areas and vast distances between communities.
