KOTA KINABALU: The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has welcomed the Sabah Government’s decision to oppose the Federal Government’s appeal in the case involving the state’s 40 per cent net revenue entitlement.
LDP vice president David Ong said the move shows the state’s commitment to defending Sabah’s constitutional rights under the Federal Constitution.
“This decisive action demonstrates the State Government’s commitment to defending Sabah’s constitutional rights,” he said, adding that the 40 per cent revenue entitlement is not a new demand but a provision long recognised and raised by Sabahans.
Ong said the issue reflects the original spirit behind the formation of Malaysia and the need for fair fiscal arrangements between Sabah and the Federal Government.
While supporting the state’s legal challenge, he urged Putrajaya to match its pledges on restoring Sabah’s rights with concrete action.
“Commitments to restore and respect Sabah’s rights must be matched with concrete actions,” he said.
Ong added that resolving the matter fairly would strengthen trust between Sabah and the Federal Government, stressing that LDP will continue supporting the state in safeguarding Sabah’s constitutional rights and long-term interests.
