Kuala Lumpur: SMJ Energy Sdn Bhd was named Equity Partner of the Year at the Petronas Emerald Awards 2026 in recognition of its contribution to Malaysia’s upstream oil and gas sector in 2025.

The annual awards, held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, recognise excellence among Petroleum Arrangement Contractors for operational performance, collaboration and sustainable industry development in Malaysia’s upstream oil and gas sector.

SMJ Energy was recognised for its strategic value contribution, collaboration with Petronas and PAC partners in Sabah, as well as its ESG practices involving responsible operations, social investment in Sabah communities and governance as a state-linked equity partner.

Its chief executive officer, Datuk Dionysia Kibat, said the award reflected the company’s commitment to working closely with operating partners through value-adding proposals, best practices and cost-effective solutions to unlock value from mature fields.

Established in 2021, SMJ Energy has expanded its upstream portfolio through partnerships with Petronas, including interests in the Samarang PSC, Sabah exploration blocks and a recent 20 per cent participating interest acquisition in the North Sabah Enhanced Oil Recovery PSC.
