SANDAKAN: A proposal to establish a cultural centre for the Kadazan Dusun Cultural Association (KDCA) Rancangan Sungai Manila (RSM) is seen as timely to meet the needs of the local community here.
Sungai Manila Assemblyman and Sawit Kinabalu Group Chairman Datuk Hazem Mubarak Musa said the area has a large Kadazan Dusun population, making such a facility relevant to the community.

He said the centre could also serve as a gathering place for the multi-ethnic community, including hosting Kaamatan celebrations in a harmonious atmosphere.
Hazem said this after officiating the RSM Kaamatan celebration at the PPR Pekan Muhibah Hall, Mile 12, here on Sunday, where he also expressed hope that the event could be expanded further in future while urging youths not to forget their customs and heritage.
Meanwhile, KDCA RSM chairman and organising chairman Sariah Duling said the proposed centre could become a venue for the annual Kaamatan celebration and other community activities, while expressing hope that RSM would one day send an Unduk Ngadau representative to the state-level competition.
