(pic) ordered the measure as part of efforts to cushion the impact of higher oil prices linked to tensions in the Middle East, according to reports and an official government announcement.

Under the directive, agencies under the executive branch are required to adopt a compressed schedule while continuing to deliver essential government services.
The order does not apply to offices providing emergency or frontline services such as police, firefighters and other critical public service agencies.
Government agencies were also instructed to reduce electricity and fuel consumption by 10 to 20 per cent as part of broader energy-saving measures during the current global oil price surge.
