LABUAN: While the aim of ensuring Malaysian undergrads know the Federal Constitution and Malaysian history should be supported, it should be done with care and respect so that all will feel a sense of belonging as Malaysians.
Activist Haji Abdul Jalil Ghani said particular attention must be paid when having the Constitution translated into Bahasa Malaysia as there may arise problems over the interpretation.
“It has to be carefully done to avoid two versions of the Federal Constitution leading to confusions over the accuracy of the interpretations,” he said.
He noted there was even apprehension by the Malaysian Bar and activists in the Borneo territories when a peninsular lawyer tried to do it through the courts recently.
