KOTA KINABALU: Phase one upgrading works on the old building of United Sabah Islamic Association (Usia) have surpassed 90 per cent completion and are expected to be fully completed this year.
Its president, Datuk Sapawi Ahmad (
pic), said the RM3 million project involved structural repairs to infrastructure damaged in a 2012 fire, including the construction of a penthouse.

He said quotations for phase two, estimated at RM2.5 million and covering electrical wiring, office renovations, parking facilities and landscaping, will be opened soon.
Sapawi also said Usia Islamic Skills College (KKIU) in Kota Marudu, focusing on Tvet for Maahad Tahfiz leavers, is expected to begin operations this year subject to permit approval.
Pending licence approval, online learning has been conducted for the initial intake of about 100 students, and an SPM Express programme will be introduced to enable Tahfiz leavers without SPM certificates to sit the examination.
