Joniston inspects Jalan Gaya upgrade works

Kota Kinabalu: Minister in Charge of Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) Datuk Joniston Bangkuai on Monday inspected road upgrading works at Jalan Gaya, Block D, ahead of the reopening of the area for public markets.

Joniston, who is also Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, said the visit was to ensure the road upgrading project is being properly implemented and that the area is safe and suitable for public use.

He said immediate action is required to trim trees and remove wild vegetation encroaching on buildings, as well as to clean the road surface to keep the area neat and presentable.

“The image of Jalan Gaya as one of the city’s main attractions must be maintained,” he said during the site visit.

Joniston said Jalan Gaya, Block D, is scheduled to reopen on Jan 30 for the Api-Api Night Food Market and the Gaya Street Sunday Market.

With the reopening, about 18 Api-Api Night Market traders and 61 Gaya Street Sunday Market traders will be able to resume operations.

He also advised the public and traders to comply with cleanliness guidelines to ensure the comfort and safety of visitors.
