KOTA KINABALU: 3,356 vehicles were inspected and 6,405 summonses issued during last year’s festive crackdown as Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan Negeri Sabah launches another Chinese New Year special operation from Feb 13 to 22.
State JPJ director Mohd Harris Ali said in 2025, authorities acted against 3,200 vehicles and seized 36, with the top offences being driving without a licence (1,728 cases) and expired road tax (1,264).

“This year’s operation deploys 286 officers targeting speeding, red-light running, illegal overtaking, phone use while driving, and other high-risk violations.
“Heavy goods vehicles are banned on Feb 14, 15, 21 and 22 except for essential services, while undercover officers will ride express buses and use unmarked vehicles to catch offenders,” he said in a statement today.
He reminded motorists to follow traffic laws and keep vehicles roadworthy as festive travel ramps up.
