KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the book What Sabahans Should Know offers valuable insight into Sabah’s political history from the perspective of one of the state’s prominent journalists, the late Datuk Mohd Fauzi Patel.

He said writing history books is a valuable undertaking as it enables events to be viewed from multiple perspectives and provides the context needed to interpret them.

He said the book is timely because it presents a narrative by the late Fauzi, a well-known figure in Sabah’s history.

His speech at the book launch held at the State Library here on Saturday was delivered by Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Joniston Bangkuai.

Hajiji said the title invites critical reflection, suggesting that many aspects of Sabah’s political history remain not fully understood and highlighting the need for more comprehensive documentation and wider public discourse.

He congratulated Daily Express chief editor Datuk James Sarda and Datuk Dr Danny Wong for their efforts in publishing the book and expressed confidence it would serve as an important reference, whether as supplementary reading or an alternative perspective on Sabah’s political history.

The book compiles the late Fauzi’s views, observations and notes on various issues and controversies involving Sabah before and after the formation of Malaysia, and he added that more works of this kind are needed, especially as major issues such as the Malaysia Agreement 1963 continue to be discussed.
