Addressing early childhood education gaps in Sabah
THE National Education Plan 2026–2035, launched on 20 January 2026 at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre, marks a major reset in Malaysia’s approach to education. 

Coming after years of disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and amid rapid changes driven by digitalization and artificial intelligence, the new blueprint reflects an effort to make the education system more adaptive, resilient and future-ready.

Education has long been central to national development, serving not only as an economic driver but also as a social equalizer shaping equitable opportunities across generations.

Among its key focus areas is early childhood education. Decades of research consistently show that the early years are critical for developing basic cognitive abilities, language skills, and social and emotional foundations.
