KOTA KINABALU: Tan Sri Simon Sipaun, former Sabah State Secretary and long-time advocate for state rights, has passed away at 88. He died from pneumonia and related complications on Sunday morning, according to his son, Ignatius via The Star.
Sipaun, a Colombo Plan scholar and former vice-chairman of Suhakam, was known for his outspoken support of democracy, governance, and Sabah’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963.
A wake will be held at Agut Jubili Lighthouse in Penampang, with his funeral Mass at 10am on Tuesday at the Church of Mary Immaculate.
Widely respected for his integrity and plain-speaking style, Sipaun also served as the first chairperson of Proham, a civil society group formed by former Suhakam commissioners.
