KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysia Consumers Foundation (YPNM) has called on the public to practise responsible food consumption by ordering only what is necessary to reduce waste.
It said food wastage is a moral, social and economic issue with major impact, while millions worldwide still face hunger and malnutrition.

“Every item of wasted food represents not only lost spending, but also wasted resources such as labour, water, energy and agricultural output,” the statement said.
YPNM noted that moderate ordering habits help households manage living costs and support the sustainability of the national food system.
“Some countries have introduced penalties for excessive leftovers to encourage greater appreciation of food,” it added.
The foundation expressed support for government awareness efforts, stressing that reducing food waste is a shared responsibility crucial to easing pressure on supply chains and addressing global food security.
