KOTA KINABALU: The welfare of Sabah journalists, particularly in terms of salaries, will be brought to the Malaysian Media Council (MMM) and later to the ministerial level to seek a comprehensive solution.
Malaysian Media Club Coalition (GKMM) President Mohamad Fauzi Ishak said the matter was discussed following concerns over low wages raised by the Sabah Journalists Association (SJA) during GKMM’s fifth roadshow series in Sabah.

“We discussed the issue of low pay raised by the SJA, with a specific focus on the welfare of media practitioners.
“These issues and challenges will be brought to the MMM before being presented to the minister for detailed deliberation, so that a solution can be reached as soon as possible,” he said after attending a dinner with Kota Kinabalu media practitioners here.
The GKMM roadshow aims to facilitate the exchange of views among media practitioners in every state, as well as to foster closer ties and strengthen relations with the MMM.
Fauzi also noted that four representatives from among 35 media organisations nationwide have been appointed to key positions within the MMM, a body dedicated to promoting the highest standards of ethical and responsible journalism.
Also present were Sabah Journalists Association President Mariah Doksil; Malaysian Press Institute Administrative Council member and Sabah Information Department Senior Assistant Director (Media and Corporate Communications Division) Dr Diana Dominic; and SJA Secretary Siti Aisyah Narudin.
