SIPITANG: A clean water shortage has affected residents in this district for the past four days, particularly in Kampung Buang Sayang and surrounding villages.
A resident, who wished to be known only as Rosli, said the district had been without clean water for almost three days.
He urged the Water Department to inform the public whenever there are disruptions or system damage.
“We are facing great difficulty in getting clean water. If there is any damage, the Water Department needs to notify residents,” he said.
Rosli added that water disruptions occur frequently, forcing residents to rely on water stored in tanks, which often run out due to daily usage.
“This may be manageable for those with water tanks, but what about residents who have no water supply for cooking, washing and bathing?” he asked.
Meanwhile, residents in Mesapol have also been without clean water, causing confusion and distress. Fatmah, a local resident, said people have been forced to buy bottled water for daily needs, including preparing food and bathing their children.
Concerns were also raised about new mothers, who need sufficient water for personal hygiene and bathing their newborns.
Ibrahim, from Kampung Guruh-Guruh, said frequent water supply interruptions have caused significant hardship for residents.
Another resident from Kampung Lingkungan Ulu urged Pan Borneo contractors to expedite repairs if they caused the problem and called on the Water Department to deliver water via tanker trucks.
He also noted that the Department of Environment (JAS) phone lines were reportedly inactive.
Musia Ahmad said Kampung Sungai Tiga, Kampung Pupolor, and Kampung Katipah have been without clean water for five days. Residents are running out of stored water, and the cause of the shortage remains unclear.
“With Ramadan approaching, managing water for breaking fast will be very difficult. Even during the rainy season, clean water is still hard to come by,” he said.
