KOTA KINABALU: Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Minister Datuk Jamawi Jaafar said Sabah will increase domestic food production to reduce reliance on imports and stabilise prices.

He said the Ministry would focus on boosting rice, livestock, vegetable and fish output while modernising farming through smart technology, as outlined in its mandate at Wisma Pertanian here on Monday.

Jamawi said a Kitchen Garden Initiative would be launched next month in Tuaran to encourage rural households to grow their own food to raise income and reduce living costs.

He said the Ministry was positioning agriculture as a profitable career for youth through mentorship programmes.
