KAPAYAN: Former Kepayan assemblywoman Datuk Jannie Lasimbang said Kapayan is set to join the global pickleball phenomenon with the construction of brand-new, trend-setting courts in Taman Kapayan.
She said the dual-purpose facility, which also includes a specialized volleyball court, represents a modern shift in local urban planning—introducing “all-age” sports that promote active lifestyles for both the youth and senior citizens.
Jannie, who initiated the proposal last year, inspected the construction site this week as excavators began clearing the area.
The project is designed to bring Kapayan up to speed with international sporting trends while honoring traditional favorites like volleyball, which has lacked a dedicated home in the area for decades, she stressed.
She added, the project was made possible through a strategic funding allocation from the former Minister of Youth and Sports, Hannah Yeoh.
The arrival of these “trendy” courts is part of a wider rejuvenation of Kapayan’s public spaces, which recently included a comprehensive repair of more than 10 neighbourhood basketball courts.
