Ranau fireworks dealers told to follow rules
Police meeting with agents and fireworks dealers in Ranau.
RANAU: The district police emphasised on public safety aspects to avoid the risk of accidents, fires and injuries often associated with fireworks.

In this regard, the Ranau District Police Headquarters (IPD) has held a meeting with company agents and fireworks traders in the district to discuss guidelines and regulations regarding the sale of fireworks.

The meeting, which took place at the Ranau IPD Main Meeting Room from 2.30pm to 3.30pm, recently, was chaired by the Head of the Ranau District Management Division, ASP Azli-Fauzan bin Othman.

Also present at the meeting were Insp Nurliyana binti Ali, Ranau IPD Licensing Officer and Ranau IPD Licensing Clerk PF Siti Khadizah Rostam.

From the agents and company representatives, the meeting was attended by representatives from Syarikat Hua Leong, Amflex, LCM, CK88 Cahaya and HD Home Theatre. In total, 16 people attended the meeting.

Among the main objectives of the meeting was to provide information on permit requirements and legal regulations related to the sale of fireworks, including sales period limits, legal locations and types of fireworks permitted under the Explosives Act 1957.

In the briefing session, all fireworks agents and traders were given a strict warning to store their stocks in safe locations, not sell in risky areas such as petrol stations or schools, and to ensure that the age limit sign for buyers is displayed.

They were also reminded not to conduct transactions online or sell fireworks in restaurants or eateries, and only sell the types of fireworks listed in the valid license.

In addition, the police emphasised compliance with the set SOPs, including the ban on selling Happy Boom type fireworks without approval from the District Police Chief.

Agents are also reminded not to put up banners that block the view of the road and to avoid any disputes that could trigger crime due to price competition.

The programme received positive feedback from agents and traders present who show their willingness to comply with the rules and regulations.
