SIPITANG: Sipitang Member of Parliament Datuk Matbali Musah has urged residents living in landslide-prone areas to stay vigilant at all times.
He gave the advice after visiting a house in Kampung PMP Baru Sipitang affected by a landslide on Friday. The landslide caused damage to the kitchen section of the house.

“I advise all residents living near hill slopes to remain vigilant at all times, especially during the current rainy season which increases the risk of landslides,” he said, while asking the affected family to remain patient during this difficult time.
Meanwhile, Sipitang Fire and Rescue Station Chief Calvin Joe Jeafery said a team was deployed to the scene, some nine kilometres away, following a 4.17pm distress call.
Upon arrival at about 4.27pm, the team found that the landslide had buried the kitchen portion of the house, which is occupied by two men and two women. No injuries were reported in the incident.
“Firefighters advised the occupants to evacuate the house immediately and remain vigilant about their surroundings, as the land could collapse further,” Calvin said.
The landslide was caused by continuous heavy rainfall over the past several days. Firefighters have issued warnings to residents living near or on hillsides to exercise extreme caution.
“Inspect hilly terrain around your homes and if you notice any signs of cracks, relocate immediately as the land could collapse at any time,” Calvin added.
