PENAMPANG: Federal agencies under the Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Ministry (NRES) in Sabah will be brought under one roof at the Mini NRES Complex Sabah, officially launched on Saturday by its minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup.
The groundbreaking ceremony was held on a 6.77-acre site here and attended by State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Jaffry Arifin and senior officials.

Arthur said the consolidation would resolve long-standing operational issues caused by agencies working out of rented offices scattered across Kota Kinabalu and Penampang.
The RM80.9 million complex will house the Malaysian Survey and Mapping Department (including its Kota Kinabalu regional topography office), the Minerals and Geoscience Department Malaysia Sabah office, the Department of Director General of Lands and Mines Sabah office and the Malaysian Meteorological Department, with shared facilities such as laboratories, a multipurpose hall and a JMG warehouse.
Approved under Rolling Plan 3 of the 12th Malaysia Plan, construction began on Oct 2, 2025, and is due for completion by Feb 1, 2029, with energy-efficient design, local architectural elements and disaster-preparedness systems prioritised to improve service delivery.
