The proposal was made during a courtesy visit from Oriental Bank (Cambodia), led by founder and chairman Datuk Phan Ying Tong, alongside board members Vanseka Sok and Jean Loi Jin Choo.
Masidi said the visit aims to facilitate business matching between Sabahan and Cambodian companies, focusing on potential collaborations and investments that would benefit both parties.
“This visit will create a practical platform for Sabahan companies to engage directly with Cambodian counterparts, exploring partnerships that bring mutual benefit,” he said.
He added that the initiative goes beyond mere introductions, aiming for structured business matching that can translate into real partnerships, investments, and market access.
Masidi also suggested that Lau, representing the private sector, help facilitate business-to-business engagement in Cambodia and potentially other Indochina markets including Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, the Philippines, China, Indonesia, and Vietnam.
The courtesy visit also provided an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between the Sabah State Government and the banking sector, as well as to exchange views on economic developments and potential investment opportunities in the state.
Masidi expressed appreciation for the visit and hoped that strategic cooperation would continue to support Sabah’s economic development.
