Kota Kinabalu: Sedco Group executive officers have been reminded to serve as public servants and to reject the “Little Napoleon” mentality in the administration of the agency.
Sedco Group chairman Datuk Masiung Banah stressed that officers at all levels must regard the people as their true employers and uphold proper public service ethics.

“We must fight the ‘Little Napoleon’ mentality and instead adopt the ‘Management by Walking Around’ approach,” he said during a visit to Sedco Mining Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of the Sedco Group, at Wisma Perkasa here on Tuesday.
Masiung was accompanied by Sedco Group general manager Datuk James Wong and was briefed by Sedco Mining Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Shamsul Bahri Johari.
The Kuamut assemblyman officially assumed his duties as the new Sedco Group chairman on Monday and is scheduled to visit several vendors and subsidiaries under the Sedco Group beginning this month.
Masiung emphasised that the required shift in mindset should not be limited to senior management but must also be reflected among junior staff.
The “Little Napoleon” culture refers to the abuse of authority by officers at various levels, which often results in delays in the implementation of planned agendas.
“I will personally monitor the integrity of officers and staff of this fully state-owned agency. Do not attempt to misuse the authority entrusted to you. Every member, including those driving the subsidiaries under the Sedco Group, must deliver effective services to the people,” he said.
According to Masiung, Sedco Mining Sdn Bhd is a key focus of the state government and serves as one of the drivers of Sabah’s economy.
He emphasised that several subsidiaries reported to be underperforming would continue to be closely monitored while efforts are made to identify weaknesses in their operations.
