Body of missing man recovered in Kota Belud

KOTA BELUD: A 55-year-old man reported missing was found dead in Sungai Lebak Engad on Wednesday evening after a joint search and rescue operation by the Fire and Rescue Department and police.

The operation was launched after police alerted firefighters at 3.16pm that the man was last seen near a river in Kampung Siasai Tamu, where witnesses reported seeing him heading towards the water two days earlier.

Police said the man had left his home in Kampung Siasai Dundau at about 6am on January 12 to collect medication from Kota Belud Hospital but never returned.

Firefighters deployed a shallow-water rescue boat to search the river, eventually locating the victim about two kilometres from the last known sighting point.

The man, who was undergoing treatment for mental health issues and held a people-with-disabilities (PWD) card, was pronounced dead at the scene by police, and the operation was concluded at 5pm.
