SEMPORNA: A foreigner suspected of involvement in untaxed cigarettes was arrested during an operation by the 22nd Battalion of the General Operations Force (GOF) at Semporna town on Wednesday.

Kunak GOF, in a statement, said the man was detained following a raid on a premise at Medan Rakyat Tongtalun under the “Op Taring Alpha” at 10am.

The raiding team arrested the suspect who was found inside the premise with a large amount of various brands of untaxed cigarettes placed inside boxes and storage containers.

“A total of 198 cartons of cigarettes worth RM63,460 were seized during the raid.  The seizures and suspect who failed to produce valid identification documents were taken to Semporna Police Headquarters for further action and investigation under the Customs Act 1967 and Immigration Act 1959,” said Kunak GOF.
